What’s new in DISS 3.3.1

  • Compared to DISS 3.3.0 (2021)

  1.  Major Content Updates
      • New Subduction Sources:
        • ITSD003 (Sicily Eastern Arc) and ITSD004 (Sicily Central Arc) replace the older CSS ITCS006 (Sciacca-Gela) and ITCS029 (Gela-Catania). The new sources provide a more accurate representation of the interface between the allochthonous units of the Sicilian Fold and Thrust Belt and the Hyblean platform.
      • New Individual Seismogenic Sources (ISS):
        • ITIS149 (Pesaro offshore), linked to the 9 November 2022, Mw 5.5 earthquake off the northern Marche coast.
      • Removed and Reassigned Sources:
        • ITIS109 (Sequals) source, removed.
        • ITCS006 (Sciacca-Gela) and ITCS029 (Gela-Catania), shifted to the subduction layer.
      • New Debated Seismogenic Sources (DSS):
        • Six new DSS from ITDS079 to ITDS084 were introduced primarily in northern and central Italy and the Ionian Sea.
  2. Parameter and Characterization Improvements
        • Revised Source Parameters:
          • The geometry and kinematics of six ISS and 36 CSS have been updated, including sources in the Northern Apennines and offshore regions.
        • New Scaling Relations:
          • Moment magnitude (Mw) scaling for crustal faults was revised using Leonard (2014); scaling for oceanic subduction was introduced using Hallen and Hayes (2017) to enhance the accuracy of magnitude estimates.
  3. Structural Changes and Database Expansion
        • Subduction Layer Revisions:
          • Expanded the shallower part of the Northern Apennines Arc (ITSD002), reflecting updated geological models.
        • Database Growth:
          • The total number of independent bibliographic references increased to 4,138 (from 4,057) and the number of unique pages of original texts to approximately 1,080 (from ~990), reflecting the addition of new data and research.
  4. Personnel Changes
        • New Team Member:
          • Rita Chiara Taccone joined the DISS Working Group, reflecting the ongoing infrastructural growth behind the database.
